We enable research and development engineers to improve their designs with data by providing custom measurement and control systems to prove concepts and validate system performance.
We are experts at applying National Instruments technology to these problems. With a strong background in NI technologies as well as strong links with NI’s UK office we can minimise your project time and risk.
Wiresmith Technology is an NI Alliance Partner that delivers a superior service by focusing on:
We work with a variety of NI technologies, focusing on the DAQ and Embedded area of their platform.
James McNally (Director/Founder) of Wiresmith Technology is our LabVIEW expert. James discovered LabVIEW in 2006 while studying at Loughborough University. He went on to spend nearly 5 years with National Instruments UK in advanced support and teaching roles.
James is a Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) and a Certified LabVIEW Embedded Developer (CLED). NI has also recognised for his contribution to advancing the LabVIEW community by being named a LabVIEW Champion.
When it comes to LabVIEW, you are in safe hands.
Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems are core to NI’s offerings and also to ours. With our experience in developing mixed sensor systems, we are experts in getting the most out of NI’s DAQ products including compactDAQ, PXI-based DAQ and SC Express.
While simple DAQ systems are straightforward; we often find customers benefit from our help with device selection, wiring techniques and synchronisation.
Once this is in place, you need to do something with the captured data. We can develop tools in LabVIEW to analyse and store the data to get the engineering and business benefits you need.
The complete hardware and software packages offered by NI in conjunction with Wiresmith Technology has increased test efficiency and accuracy. It has also given Lontra the ability to further develop and optimise data analysis simulation techniques for future product design."
Carl Godden, Senior Development Engineer, Lontra
They say you shouldn’t have a favourite child, but this is ours! It is remarkable what you can achieve with a high-level language like LabVIEW when you apply it to embedded systems.
James is a CLED and a long time expert in FPGA systems.
While at NI James was the application specialist for these technologies and regularly helped customers push the boundaries of what they believed they could do, With companies such as Sphere Fluidics using these systems to be on the cutting edge of technology.
CompactRIO is the pairing of Real-Time and FPGA technologies. We have repeatedly built successful systems using this combination, such as with National Grid, deploying 135 compactRIOs across their UK distribution network.
We provide full support by helping with distributed communication synchronisation, system management, reliable software design and anything else that may need attention.
The deliverable was completed on time which allowed us to demonstrate our technology concept. Even after this James provided technical support until we were happy with the system. We would absolutely recommend them as a reliable, flexible and friendly partner."
Dr. Xin Li, Chemistry Group Leader, Sphere Fluidics
We want to make sure your data is usable, so we ensure your data is readable and accessible. We have vast experience working on projects collecting massive quantities of data that needs to be available to engineers.
A great alternative to traditional databases is DIAdem and the TDMS data format. TDMS files allow collection of meta-data alongside the raw data and makes for fast storage and fast retrieval of relevant data.
Veristand is a powerful tool for non-programmers to leverage NI hardware in the validation and verification of embedded control systems, but often it may not do everything you need out of the box.
We can develop custom devices and FPGA systems to integrate with Veristand to enable you to focus on your main activities.
How will I know if you’re any good?!
Requesting external support can be unsettling, particularly when you don’t have expertise in that specific area. We can relate to that as we’ve used external contractors ourselves to support us on languages that we’re less familiar with.
Programming capability is especially hard to capture objectively or through an absolute value, so we would invite you to:
It depends on how satisfied you are with the outcome! The initial figures can appear a little daunting so it’s good to know that there are a number of independent expenses that you don’t have to pay when you engage a Consultant:
Typically, we’ll be able to fast-track you to a more valuable solution, more reliably and quicker than a less experienced developer.
We always provide you with full source code to the solution and permissive licences to any Wiresmith Technology components used. This means that you are free to continue the work in-house or with another firm in the future.
Of course, we hope that you would come back to us for additional work once an initial project is complete – as many other customers regularly do. Because we give you the source code, you can be sure that this will be competitively priced.
We consider ourselves Systems Engineers.
With a comprehensive background in engineering, we’re yet to encounter a domain for which we’ve not been able to resolve any issues – and moreover, then go on to suggest further improvements.
We’re always mindful of your insight and expertise which is why we constantly liaise with you and perform regular demos and testing to make sure we’re on track.
